ESD Global Level 2 Graduate Instructor Pacha Aspires to Empower Women in Chile and Latin America
We are excited to share that María Paz Toro Leal (Pacha) achieved ESD Global Level 2 Instructor status! Pacha has been an ESD self-defense instructor for women and groups at risk since 2016. She holds a Degree in Education and Philosophy and has developed several projects from popular education and decolonial community feminism. She is currently developing the Self-Defense Project in Chile, which aims to open a training space for new self-defense and empowerment instructors.
"Learning to set boundaries and using our voice is part of what we share in self-defense workshops, as an instructor and educator, we want to take these tools to all possible educational spaces, we are happy that we will soon open training spaces so that there are more facilitators in Chile and Latin America", she shares.
Pacha believes that empowerment through self-defense enhances our inner voice, our firmness in setting boundaries. “While the culture of violence takes time to reverse, we have to take these tools to every possible space”, she says.

Nuestra comunidad ESD Global esta muy orgullosa de compartir que María Paz alcanzó el estatus de Instructor de Nivel Global 2 de Autodefensa y Empoderamiento este ultimo mes, ¡enseñando más de 100 horas en su comunidad!
María Paz es Licenciada en Educación y Filosofía, Instructora de autodefensa para mujeres y grupos en riesgo por ESD desde el 2016. Ha desarrollado diversos proyectos desde la educación popular y el feminismo comunitario decolonial, hoy desarrolla el proyecto de Autodefensa en Chile, pronta a abrir un espacio de formación para nuevas instructoras de autodefensa y empoderamiento.
"El empoderamiento por medio de la autodefensa permite potenciar nuestra voz interior, nuestra firmeza al establecer límites, y mientras la cultura de la violencia demora en revertirse, tenemos que llevar estas herramientas a todos los espacios posibles". "Aprender a establecer límites y usar nuestra voz es parte de lo que compartimos en los talleres de autodefensa, como instructora y educadora, queremos llevar estas herramientas a todos los espacios educativos posibles, estamos felices de que pronto abriremos espacios de formación para que hayan más facilitadoras en Chile y América Latina".
